Measure for Measure

American Bard Theater Company is in its Second Season and so the Fall offering was Measure for Measure...and the honor of directing such a monster of a show was yours truly! It was a fantastic experience. I knew I liked directing as much as I love acting, but this really proved to me how much I need both directing and acting in my life to satisfy my creativity. I enjoyed the entire process and I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to work on such a problematic script, and I say that in a completely positive light...Shakespeare's Measure for Measure is so often dealt with as a drama. It is very difficult to do this play as the comedy it was meant to be, but difficult or not that's what we did, "Shakespeare's Measure for the Measure the Dark Comedy." It was a successful attempt to change the audience's point of view about a play that is traditionally done as a drama, and in this instance in order to be different I had to go back to the classic script and honor the comedic structure in which it was originally written. Good times, good times!
